Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

Overall:

Sunrise on the Reaping was definitely one of my best reads ever! I’m starting a petition for Suzanne Collins to pay for my therapy because the emotional damage this book caused has traumatized me. I did not finish this book, it finished me! This was for sure a 5/5 stars read. I will forever recommend this book (but be warned you will cry and feel like you’ve been stabbed straight in the heart), not only for the great criticism of modern society, but also for the great representation and development of the characters.

Characters:

Absolutely obsessed with Haymitch. He was already my favorite character from the Hunger Games trilogy, but getting to know him better and getting the opportunity to live everything he had to endure through before the original trilogy just made it even sadder, and made empathise with so much harder.

Atmosphere:

Getting back to the hunger games world was intense to say the least (but a good type of intense). Suzanne Collins knew exactly what she was doing when she wrote Sunrise on the Reaping. The resemblances to our world were incredible to read, because it just makes the criticism of the story to hit so much harder.

I don’t really have any other words to describe how much I enjoyed this book (even though I cried like a baby). I can’t wait to see this book being adapted into a movie, I think the cast is spot on and I’m anticipating this movie like crazy, because I’m just so excited to see these characters being brought to life.

Ps: Would love for Suzanne Collins to write a book from a career’s perspective!!
